Nine Eyes of Google Street View Presentation

Artist Work Thoughts

Dead person in the middle of the road. Shows how Google Street View takes images without concerns for ethics or aesthetics, but just captures the moment.
Aftermath of a car crash. Similar to the dead person picture, it shows the raw and uncut moment that Google Street View captures.
Masked people. Some people dislike having their pictures taken, some ignore it and others think its funny or interesting and might even pose for the camera.
Although most people in street view images often ignore the camera, it is interesting to see how some react to their photo being taken. While most make friendly gestures, others may appear aggressive.
Google's imagery is an automated process that Rafman describes as "artless and indifferent," yet at times it still captures the beauty of nature.
The instantaneous nature of photography has the power to capture events and people in the moment. While most focus on the scenes of everyday life for humans, it is interesting to see the presence of nature, even in urban street settings.
